A natural wine made from 55 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 45 % Merlot. The name Samo is simply a play with the letters of the blended varieties. As it turned out it was also the name of a person closely linked with the Pannonian Basin’s history. Samo founded the Samo’s Empire in 623. He was showing such bravery and command skills that he was elected as the “Slavic king”. Now, he is the namesake king of the ’union’ of our Sauvignon and Merlot.
Grown organically and biodynamically in the slopes Város Hegy (meaning ’Town Hill’) and Verebes Rét (meaning ’Sparrow Meadow’). The soil is loess and clay over a limestone bedrock. The grapes were hand picked and the must fermented spontaneously with native, wild yeast. The malolactic fermentation also took place spontaneously, without any additives. The wine matured in used Hungarian and French small oak barrels for 16 months in a small traditional underground cellar. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered with the addition of a minimal amount of sulfur.
The nose displays black and red berries, cherry and a hint of paprika, dark chocolate and pepper. Tight, extremely juicy finish. Organic wine, certified by Biokontroll Hungária HU-ÖKO-01.
