Kékfrankos, 2017

Natural wine made from Kékfrankos grapes, a variety that is practically only grown in the Carpathian Basin. Grown biodynamically in very small plots in the slopes Város Hegy (meaning ’Town Hill’) and Hidegkút (meaning ’Cold Well’) surronded by walnut trees, almonds and figs, which clearly indicate the mediterranean influence in Villány. The soil is loess and clay over a limestone bedrock. The grapes were hand picked and the must fermented spontaneously with native, wild yeast. The malolactic fermentation also took place spontaneously, without any additives. The wine was aged in used Hungarian and French small oak barrels for 18 months in a small traditional underground cellar. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered with the addition of a minimal amount of sulfur.

Ripe black cherries and dark chocolate notes dominate the deep scent. On the palate it’s persistent and round with a spicy finish, typically fleshy texture and playful vivacity. A biodynamic wine certified by Demeter.
