Starting from 1 August 2021 Grand Tokaj is in the ownership of the Foundation for the University of Tokaj-Hegyalja. Grand Tokaj is one of the most important Hungarian wineries and the largest winery in the historic Tokaj wine region, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is the guardian and protector of the national wine tradition. With 67 hectares of vineyards, the winery is an integrator of the region, buying grapes from over 1,000 hectares of vineyards and more than 1,000 small producers, and accounts for around 35% of the region’s total wine production. The technological base for producing world-class wines is provided by a 6.6 million litre capacity stainless steel tank hall and a bottling plant capable of filling 10 million bottles a year. The new generation of Grand Tokaj’s wines are produced under the supervision of winemaker Károly Áts, who has won the prestigious title of „Winemaker of the Winemakers” in 2020.
