Sanzon Tokaj

Sanzon Tokaj is a small boutique winery in the lovely village of Erdőbénye, in the heart of Tokaj Hegyalja, owned by Erika Rácz and her husband Gergely Jánosi. Founded in 2014, on a small parcell of 0,3ha inherited from her parents. Erika was born in a small village in Tokaj-Hegyalja and the family has always had grapes and made wines, however her carrier started in a different industry. It was only 6 years ago having relocated back from Germany that she decided to make her long awaited dream come true.

4 hectares, organic cultivation, low volume wines. Their volcanic terroires are spread over in 5 different vineyards on the historic hills between Erdőbénye and Tolcsva. The soil is mainly rhyolite and the vines are aged between 40-70 years. They are working with the 2 major Tokaj varieties, Furmint and Hárslevelű, but also farm a 0,5 ha of Yellow Muscat. Annual production is 8000-10000 bottles, with limited selections made only in good years.

No chemicals, farming with minimal intervention, in an eco-friendly way. They believe that great wines are made by keeping the balance of fruity aromas and showing the characteristic of a terroir, to achieve this they combine both cold fermentation in stainless steel and in oak barrels (Stockinger made from Austrian oak), Hungarian clay amphorae.
